The evening began innocently enough. 16 Buddy's pizzas, 4 salads and drinks at ePrize in Pleasant Ridge. We had about 30 aspiring members. At 7:00 pm, we adjourned to a conference room with a wall projector, where Tim Taylor began a short presentation detailing ePrize Perl usage and their interest in the Perl community. Bill Hess then testified to the same for his company, Technology Resource Group, of Royal Oak.
The presentations began. Chad Carr went through a presentation titled A Gentle Introduction to Perl Datatypes, finally whipping the audience into a typeglob frenzy.
Todd Chapman presented on POE (Perl Object Environment) which spawned some good discussion on concurrency issues and load testing.
We finished off the night with a little Q&A and by deciding to defer officer elections until after the beginning of the year. It was decided that the next meeting will be a social to allow people to get to know potential group officers better. We also discussed the future presentations, with Werner Morgenstern and Bill Hess offering up a SOAP::Lite presentation for the next meeting, and Chad Carr a discussion of a small piece of concurrency code called "Futures." Todd Chapman capped the evening off with a building tour for those not familiar with the unique ePrize building layout.
